Responsible Disposal

Have some items that are not eligible to swap that you want to dispose of responsibly?

If you have items that do not meet the eligibility criteria in terms of style, but are still in good condition (such as activewear, shoes, childrenswear etc..) these can be donated to local charity stores.

If your items are at the end of their lives and need to be disposed of...

PlanetArk suggests local sites for resposible disposal of clothing and bedding. Your old fabric can be used in other industries as rags for mechanics or bedding in animal shelters.

Upparel will collect boxes of old unfit-to-wear textiles from your home to recyle them.

They will sort the fabrics by colour and fabric, then shred the fibres down and repurpose them into items such as roof tiles, insulation, office partitions and stuffing for pet beds.

Rubber from shoes can be shredded and developed into new products or track surfaces, basketball courts and playgrounds.

Whilst Upparel does charge a collection fee, this fee is usually redeemable for a store credit, that you can use to purchase new socks made out of the fibres that they recyle!
